Electromagnetic Flow Meter

PVC Pipeline Services  supply quality electro-magnetic flow meter systems that have been used extensively in wastewater applications. These water meter systems don’t have any moving parts, making them ideal for dirty water or water-based liquids.

When do you use an Electro-magnetic Flow Meter?

If you’re unsure whether or not your application requires the use of an electro-magnetic flow meter, ask yourself some of the following questions:

  • Is the fluid conductive or water-based? Electro-magnetic flow meters usually won’t work with hydrocarbons, distilled water and non-aqueous solutions

  • Is the fluid abrasive?

  • What is the flow rate?

  • What is the process pressure?

  • What is the process temperature?

  • Is the fluid chemically compatible with the flow meter wetted parts?

  • What is the size of the pipe?

  • Is the pipe always full?

Applications with a low pressure drop or those that don’t require a lot of maintenance are ideal for electro-magnetic flow meters. PVC Pipeline Services  are happy to consult on the application to help you decide what meter system will be best for your needs.

How do they work?

Electro-magnetic flow meters are able to detect flow through the use of Faraday’s Law of Induction. There is an electro-magnetic coil inside the flow meter, which generates a magnetic field. Electrodes capture the voltage or electro-motive force. Through this process the flow can be measured, even though it might seem as though there is nothing happening inside the flow pipe.
